ISLAMABAD: Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will not be able to play the upcoming home series against Pakistan due to an ongoing hamstring injury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said on Saturday, after the player was forced to cut short his assignment with the national team at the Twenty 20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
Bangladesh are scheduled to host Pakistan in a series of 3 T20Is at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on November 19, 20 and 22 in Dhaka. The series will be followed by two Tests in Chattogram and Mirpur, starting from November 26 and December 4, respectively.
Shakib had suffered a grade-one hamstring injury while fielding in Bangladesh's Super 12 match against defending champions West Indies on October 29, according to a statement issued by the BCB.
“Shakib will take at least three weeks to recover and get back to the field. He might be able to play the Test series,” BCB’s chief physician Debashish Chowdhury was quoted as saying.
During the World Cup, Shakib went past retired Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga to become the leading wicket-taker in T20 internationals with 117 scalps from 94 games at an average of 19.19 and a five-for.
On September 14, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that the men’s cricket team would travel to Bangladesh after a five-year hiatus to play the hosts in three T20 Internationals and two ICC World Test Championship matches.
According to a statement by the PCB, the national side’s tour was part of the "Future Tours Programme" and would commence with the T20I series, which would be staged at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
